SILETZ - One person has died in a traffic crash on Logsden Road east of Siletz.

On June 28, at approximately 6:08 p.m., Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a reported traffic crash on Logsden Road near milepost 3.8 east of Siletz.

A 911 caller reported a motorcycle and a full-size pickup had collided at the location and one subject was on the ground unresponsive. Siletz Valley Fire personnel responded to the scene and confirmed the motorcyle operator was deceased.

Due to the nature of the crash, deputies at the scene requested the Lincoln County Multi-Agency Crash Team (MAC-T) respond to the scene to conduct further investigation.

Investigation by crash team members revealed a gray 1988 Ford pickup operated by Nahni Metcalf, 38, of Siletz, was traveling eastbound on Logsden Road and was negotiating a left hand turn into a private driveway. As Metcalf initiated the turn, her vehicle was struck in the driver's door area by a green 1996 BMW R1100 motorcycle operated by Richard Miles Berenson, 64, of Siletz.

Investigation showed Berenson was attempting to pass Metcalf's vehicle on the left resulting in the collision. Berenson was thrown from his motorcycle and died from injuries sustained from the crash.

Metcalf and her female passenger were uninjured. Metcalf has been cooperative with the investigation and no impairment was detected as a possible factor related to the crash.

Further investigation into the details of the crash is continuing however no criminal charges are being considered at this time.
