Update: Recreational fire ban continues at state parks

The statewide campfire and open flame ban in Oregon State parks remains in place for at least one more week, according to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Conditions have not improved since the ban began Aug. 19.

Oregon Drought: Emergency declared in Linn County

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has declared a drought emergency in Linn County. This declaration comes at the request of local officials and is based on the recommendations of the Drought Council and the Water Availability Committee.

Oregon Wildfire Season: Extreme fire danger

Northwest Oregon is currently experiencing fire danger not seen in recent memory and weather forecasts don't provide any relief. Forest fuels are at record dry levels and forecasts for this weekend indicate it will continue to be hot and dry. Everyone should be concerned.

Banned: Campfires, open flames at Oregon state parks

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is prohibiting all campfires in Oregon State Parks and other properties owned and managed by the department. The ban took effect at 10 a.m. Aug. 19.

New study: The danger of toxic algal blooms

A new study has found that toxic algal blooms in reservoirs on the Klamath River can travel more than 180 miles downriver in a few days, survive passage through hydroelectric turbines and create unsafe water conditions on lower parts of the river in northern California.

Allowing legal marijuana businesses to access banking services

Oregon’s Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden and Congressman Earl Blumenauer were on hand Tuesday, Aug. 11 at Rivermark Community Credit Union in Portland to call on Congress to pass legislation sponsored by all three elected officials that would ensure legal marijuana businesses can access banking services.
