Field of Flags

Field of Flags: Volunteers set up 1,000 American Flags for the 2017 Celebration of Honor. Each year during the event, the flags fill the field behind the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City.

Lincoln City's American Legion Post 97 will be hosting a Celebration of Honor dinner for all interested veterans from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Chinook Winds Casino.

The guest speaker, John “Spike” Nasmyth, will be sharing his experience as a POW in North Vietnam for over five years.

As an Air Force F-4C combat pilot, he was decorated with the Silver Star for his heroic actions during incarceration. He is the author of several books about his experience in Vietnam, including “2,355 Days: A POW's Story,” “The Boys Who Bring in the Crop,” and “So You Want to be a Ferry Pilot.”

Reservations are required for this dinner. Veterans will be charged $25 each and spouses dine free. All veterans are invited and no veteran will be turned away.

Please call 541-921-2008 and leave message with name and number of attending, or email Loriann Sheridan at, no later than Thursday, Sept. 13.
