A Boeing 727 has landed in Lincoln City, well, a part of one.

Bob Portwood, owner of Robert's Book Shop, recently bought the nose of a Boeing 727 from a state auction and it was finally delivered April 28.

"I watch the state surplus auctions," said Portwood. "I was looking and one day they had something listed under airplane. So I looked and it was the front end of a 727. I thought, 'well that's cool.'"

Portwood said he forwarded the information on the airplane nose for auction to his daughter, Diana Portwood.

"He asked, 'Is this a stupid idea?'" said Diana Portwood. "And I said 'No!'"

The Portwoods have excavated some space out of the parking lot to place the airplane. They plan on knocking a hole in the wall so customers can see inside the cockpit.

"We'll see when it's attached if we are going to be able to have it open to the public," said Diana Portwood. "He wants to have the aviation books in there."
