School Threat

Lincoln County School District Superintendent Dr. Karen Gray said police have since declared the building all clear and safe to return.

Gray earlier sent this message to parents of the high school students:

"This is a message to all families and guardians of NHS/NMS. We had a threat at Newport High School today and as a precaution evacuated all NHS students to Newport Middle School.

Everyone is safe. Students who normally take the bus home will take the bus home from NMS as soon as possible. NHS students not on the bus will be released to walk back to NHS after the police give us the all clear. Please follow your normal after school routine."

Police investigation

As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18. Newport Police had not released any details about the threat or the following investigation.

A Lincoln County School District official confirms that a threat has been made at Newport High School.

The school was evacuated earlier this afternoon due to the incident. The district official said police have determined that the threat is a hoax.
