On January 1, at about 8:53 p.m., Oregon State Police troopers responded to a report of a deceased person on the beach about 1 mile north of Roads End State Park.

Early information indicates that 58-year-old Jan Thum, of Damascus, was walking on the beach collecting agates. Thum was found deceased by a person walking on the beach and called in to the Lincoln City Police Department. While the investigation is not complete, troopers believe his death was not suspicious.

OSP was assisted by the Lincoln City Police Department and Pacific View Mortuary responded also.
