According to an update from investigators, Joshua Gilleo was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy was conducted on October 26. The State Medical Examiner's Office ruled Gilleo's cause of death as suicide. The cause of death was consistent with evidence located at the scene by Newport investigators.

DEATH INVESTIGATION: Jail inmate ides
The Newport Police Department is investigating the death of an inmate at the Lincoln County Jail.
During a routine inmate welfare check shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 25,, Lincoln County Jail deputies discovered inmate Joshua Gilleo of Depoe Bay, unresponsive.
Jail staff immediately began CPR, administered the AED and medics were called. Medics arrived and took over CPR. Gilleo was pronounced deceased by paramedics. At the time of the incident Gilleo was housed in a single cell. Jail deputies completed routine inmate welfare checks approximately 50 minutes prior to the incident.
An autopsy to determine cause of death will be scheduled.
Gilleo was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on the charges of Unlawful Use of Weapon; Endangering a Person Protected by a Family Abuse Prevention Act (Restraining Order), Possession of Prohibited Firearm, Menacing, Contempt of Court x 3, total security set in the amount of $135,000.00
