This year we celebrate our nation’s 243rd birthday. Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, values of freedom of speech and democracy are foundation pillars that have helped make our country great and make us a model for other countries around the world.

In this week's print edition, we invite you to cut out the American Flag and display it in the front window of your business or residence in honor of our country and personal freedom. Closer to home and for nearly 100 years, The News Guard has expressed our community freedom by recording and publishing the stories that have been important to local residents as documented by the most trusted news source in Lincoln County.

We take our obligation to record and publish your hometown news very seriously and we work hard to exceed your expectations in covering your community each and every day. We approach each day with the understanding that topics that are important and unique to our community are made possible by generations of Americans who have defended our freedoms.

We honor our men and women in the armed forces, past, present and future, and thank the countless generations who have served from Lincoln County. We believe The News Guard has an obligation to continuously lead the way of being the watchdog of our personal freedoms within the community. Thus, today we continue to adapt and become more diverse, to carry out our core mission of informing Lincoln County residents via freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

As many of our readers and subscribers have noticed we have made some design changes to our core product. We believe that our newspaper subscribers deserve the most complete access to local content that you won’t find anywhere else.

Are you a current News Guard subscriber? If yes, then you know of the expanded daily coverage of top-notch digital, in-depth reporting and relevant local community content that you can’t get anywhere else. In fact, The News Guard subscribers receive free unlimited digital access via smartphones, tablets and desktops.

We have always advocated and protected your undeniable freedom of printed speech. Now we’re investing more in our websites, social media and digital platforms. Giving you the freedom to express the way you like and share what’s important to you several times every day.
