Dear Lincoln City,
At Saturday’s Community Days banquet, I had the great honor of being named Man of the Year for 2018. Due to family commitments, as the award was announced I was at home reading a bedtime story to my son, Quinn, who had turned six that day.
While I wouldn’t trade that bedtime story for the world, I regret not being able to stand alongside my fellow nominees and would like to take a moment here to express my admiration for them. This year’s nominees included Riley Hoagland, who volunteers his time as a city councilor as well as with Family Promise, the Lincoln City Warming Shelter and many other endeavors; Boone Marker, who seems to be everywhere at once between his work with Kiwanis, youth coaching and more; Josh Zantello, a fellow board member of the Lincoln City Warming Shelter, active Kiwanian and a captain in the National Guard; Gerry Stavney, a tireless booster for our arts community through his work at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology; and Bob Gibson, past president of the Bay Area Merchant Association who lends his photographic talents to community endeavors too numerous to mention.
To be nominated alongside men of such caliber was a tremendous honor and a reminder of how lucky we all are to call this community home.
