With a pair of trips to the quarterfinals in the 3A State Playoffs, it should come as no surprise that the Taft High School baseball and softball teams garnered numerous All-League awards.
For the softball team, the Tigers finished the season 18-9 overall and 7-5 in league play, which was good enough for a third place finish in the Special District 1 league. The league was without a doubt the toughest in the entire 3A classification with three teams in the top five and the state champion Clatskanie Tigers who finished the season a perfect 27-0. But Taft more than held their own and proof is seen in the All-League awards in which the Tigers claimed six of them.
Leading the way was the pitcher, catcher duo of juniors Emma Coulter and Hailee Danneker, who were both named First Team All-League. Coulter was a dominant throughout the season in the circle for Taft, often recording double-digit strikeouts as the Tigers’ ace pitcher. Counterpart Danneker, was as reliable as they come behind the plate as a catcher, and a consistent batter offensively, hitting lead-off all season.
Taking spots on the Second Team All-League list were sophomores Claira Tolan, Kayla Lininger and freshmen Chloe Peterson. And earning an All-League honorable mention was freshmen Addie Gates to round out the Tiger award winners.
The Tiger baseball team finished the season 17-11 overall and 11-4 in league. Much like the softball team, the baseball boys were third in the Special District 2 league and were just an inning or two away from a semifinal birth in the semifinals of the 3A state playoffs.
Nevertheless, Taft still claimed six All-League selections including three on the First Team list.
Senior outfielder Tyee Fisher was one of the First Team All-League recipients with his powerhouse hitting at the plate this season and fellow senior Cody Knott also graced the list as one of the leagues top hitter and infielders. Junior Eli DeMello joined them on the First Team list as a steady hand offensively and one of Taft’s top throwers on the mound.
Senior pitcher and first baseman Bleiz Kimbrough and junior Trenton Fisher were named to the Second Team All-League and sophomore infielder Fco Ramos was an honorable mention selection.
