Taft travels to Dayton for the next playoff game set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, against Blanchet.

If the Tigers win they will advance to the first round of the state playoffs placing third in the conference.

  • Edson Fuentes was named 1st team all conference
  • William Calderon name 2nd team all conference
  • Honorable mentions include Jose Flores, Estib Hernandez, and William Brooks.

The following is from Taft Coach Ryan Ulicni.

"The first playoff game of the season was a statement from our boys.

Ending the afternoon with a 2-0 victory. They have made it loud and clear that they are the ones to watch. We played a fantastic game against Delphian this afternoon. Having lost to them by one goal just 5 days ago, our boys knew exactly what had to be done.

Leading the charge on the offensive was our captains in the midfield.

Captain Jose Flores (sophomore) scored a goal by striking a shot with his foot off a corner kick.

Captain William Calderon (sophomore) scored a goal after a fantastic solo effort controlling the ball thru the defense and finishing past the keeper.

Keeping the leadership on the defensive end was our Senior Captain William Brooks. His instructions from the back were key in getting us in the right positions.

Leaving the field today these young men had every right to be very happy with their performance. I know I could not be more proud. Everyone on the team is ready for what comes next. Eager to put in the hard work before the next game on Saturday"
